FÊTE IMPÉRIALE X DRAWING COMPETITION
March 2020
IMAGINE THE NEXT WORLD,
BETWEEN ARCHITECTURE & BOTANY
Take a little moment to pause, think, imagine and be creative.
The world after.
Because we're convinced that creativity is necessary and healthy.
The time has come to get together and share differently.

In this particular context, Fête Impériale came up with a drawing competition open to all.
Like a window on the outside world, on the nature that is reclaiming its rights in the very heart of cities,
this competition between imagination and contemplation was an escape proposal during the confinement.
Fête Impériale has set up a jury, whose members come from the worlds of art and fashion, to invite them to select their favorite designs.

2nd - RAPHAËLE
A word from the author:
"The next world, between architecture and botany.
We can see buildings emerging from the ground with pure curves, tinted white, with gigantic gardens as roofs. These will be the buildings of the future, the housing of the future, which will have to combine with plants to keep irreplaceable green spaces for humans while multiplying to the maximum to accommodate them.
Faces of cities, metropolises, megacities - but what about country architecture? Will it evolve too? Coastal or mountain houses? We come to this old seaside house, buried under vegetation, which I've depicted in a linocut print. This home, certainly abandoned because of rising sea levels, will never be restored because the land will no longer be habitable. All these dwellings are doomed to disappear, like those in certain cities built on rivers and canals. How long will it take? Thanks to my Norman grandmother, who lives in Créances-plage, four hundred metres from the sea, and who made me understand that no, Raphaële, you will never inherit la maison from your childhood: it will be the ocean that takes it before you.
The linocut technique was dear to my heart for this subject: it requires a lot of patience and has to be printed using a press... a machine that's inaccessible in confinement! What if I printed without a press? On my own? How would that look? It renders an imprecise image, like a transfer or a photo taken from damaged film..."

A word from the author:
"In the next world, architecture and its inert foundations of concrete and iron have been reconciled with the soil and the earth.
In this emblematic Parisian square, which combines art, architecture and power, flora and fauna have replaced the once waterproof asphalt base of Buren's Deux Plateaux, whose marble columns have begun to grow randomly like plants.
The city has not been swallowed up by nature. Nature has become urban."
